Two police officers were killed in an attack on a police station on Tuesday in Abayi Aba, Abia state in eastern Nigeria.

This followed a series of attacks and the destruction of police stations after a protest against police brutality in the country turned violent over the killing of protesters by government forces.

“The attackers broke into the police station around 2:15am in the morning, killing an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) and a police corporal,” a witness told Gazette Africa, adding that the attackers also burned the police station and stole weapons.

Meanwhile, security officers who arrived at the scene of the incident and its surroundings have resorted to creating more tension in the area.
